Paper Towns by John Green

Hey! So, this book isn't the really like the normal stuff that I would read (except for the fact that it's mystery) but it's still wonderfully good!

STORY....

Q has been in love with Margo Roth Spiegelman since the first time they met. As next door neighbors, they hung out often growing up, it was normal kid stuff, until they found Robert Joyner: the dead guy in the park. It was the first mystery that Margo was able to dive into, and it was the first step in leaving Q behind. Years later, Q is preparing to graduate from high school like a normal student but Margo has other plans. They haven't seen much of each other since the day with Robert Joyner, but Q is still infatuated with Margo - so when she shows up outside his window telling him that she has to do "eleven things tonight, and at least five of them involve a getaway man" he, of course, helps her. The night is filled with the Margo-type-adventures that Q has only heard about, and he figures that the rest of the year will be different. That maybe Margo will acknowledge him, maybe she'll even start hanging out with him again. But Margo has a nasty habit of disappearing, leaving only a trail of subtle clues to indicate where she may have gone. Normally, the clues are left for her parents: certain letters left floating in her alphabet soup and so on. But this time, they're for Q. As he dives into the search for her he discovers that he never really knew her at all. Nobody did. And now he must find out: Who is the real Margo Roth Spiegelman?

"Tonight, darling, we are going to right a lot of wrongs. And we are going to wrong some rights. The first shall be last; the last shall be first; the meek shall do some earth -inheriting."

This book was amazing! I love a good mystery, sometimes love a good realistic fiction and Ialways love romance! Paper Towns had it all wrapped in nice sparkling paper with a bow on top. The characters were lovable, believable and relatable and it was one of those books that had me laughing and crying along with them! I give this book a strong 5 out of 5 stars and recommend it to, well, everyone!

The Kidnapping of Christina Lattimore by Joan Lowery Nixon

Hey! Sorry I haven't posted in a while! I've been so busy! Anyway....

STORY:

Christina Lattimore is an ordinary girl. She's a junior in high school who's hopefully going to be able to attend a school trip over the summer to France. That is, if she can convince her parents and Grandmother - Christabel - to pay for it, which they've already made up their minds not to do. Desperate to escape the stringent atmosphere of home, Christina flees to her friend, Lorna's, house for a while. She's finally feeling a tad bit better, but when she gets home... she is kidnapped. Struggling to stay alive and sane in a cold, dark basement Christina desperately tries to escape, but when rescue does come, accusations tag along with it. Could Christina Lattimore have planned her own kidnapping?

"'I came to tell you...that I believe you.'"

This book was great! I have this strange fascination with reading and watching things about kidnapping, so this book sucked me in with the title alone! The characters are easy to relate to and lovable (most of them anyways) and the plot is amazing! I give this a four out of five stars and recommend it to other action/kidnapping/mystery fans!

Double Edged by Z.R. Fira (me!) New Cover

Hey everyone!! (this is the same as my last post, but i wanted to update the picture because I got a new cover yesterday!)

So this post isn't really about a book, but it kind of is... I've been working on writing a lot of stories lately and ended up posting one online, there's about 35 pages of it out there and I would really appreciate some feedback if anyone would like to take a look. Story:

The Blade: an assassin who's been raising hell in a big city. Rumors of the assassins motives fly through the town, carried across radio waves, announced during the nine o'clock news and whispered about behind textbooks of anxious high school students or while shuffling papers at work. People who have been accused of horrible crimes but never convicted are turning up dead, all with the tell tale signs of The Blade stamped across the crime scene. The panic is contagious, spreading to everyone in the city, everyone except two 17-year-olds, Alex and Lee, who find it strangely ironic that they're parents are enforcing new rules and curfews to keep them safe when they are, in fact, The Blade.

"What did I miss?” says a male voice above me. “Epic battles? Blood shed? Anything that I would classify as 'good?'”

Eyes Like Stars by Lisa Mantchev

Hey everyone! I finished this book a couple days ago, it was great!!

Story:

ENTER STAGE RIGHT....

Beatrice Shakespeare Smith has known nothing but the Theatre. She grew up there and has never stepped foot outside it's enchanted walls. Along with Bertie, the cast from every play that the Theatre performs lives there too, magically bound within the Theatre's walls. Although she loves her friends, Cobweb, Moth, Mustardseed and Peaseblossom (four mischievous fairies) and her heart skips a beat every time Nate - a gorgeous, overprotective, superstitious pirate - walks in the room, Bertie knows that she's missing something. She doesn't remember how she got to the Theatre, has never met either of her parents, and has a gnawing feeling that she knows more than she thinks. Trying again and again to reenact her arrival to the Theatre, hoping to uncover something she missed before, Bertie will never quite trying to defog her murky past. But when the Theatre begins to fall apart at the seems, Bertie must try to piece it back together and hope to find a match within the ruble for her unfinished puzzle of a life.

"What's past is prologue, and the world awaits."

This was a really amazing book! It was a totally unique idea and the author did such a good job with it! The characters are amazing (especially Nate) and even though it's a world of magic, the story is very believable! I give it a 5 out of 5 and recommend it to Shakespeare, fantasy and theater fans! Personally, I can't wait to get my hands on the sequel!

The Ask and The Answer by Patrick Ness

Hey! I finished this book last week but haven't gotten a chance to post about it until just now! I'll try to write without giving away too much about the first book, but that's a little difficult to do so if you haven't read the first one... well... sorry.

Story: WARNING may contain spoilers.

Todd Hewitt and Viola Eade, forced together by the Mayors evil plotting and then pulled apart for the same reason... Not knowing where Viola is, or if she's even still alive is torture for Todd, not to mention the fact that he has to work with the man who shot her, Davy Prentiss, overseeing Spackle labor. By day he is in the field, watching the Spackle's pale hands lift rocks, their accusing eyes on him at all time, and by night he is locked in a cathedrals bell tower, inches away from freedom that he can never obtain. But when bombs start going off in the city and he feels like Viola is farther away than ever before, Todd struggles even more, fighting not to stray from his beliefs, and thinking that the grass possibly appears slightly greener on the Mayors side.

Viola Eade wakes up to all white, which is strange since hell is supposed to be flaming. All she knows is that Todd isn't there. Her bullet wound aches with her every move and the people tending to her are kind but seem to be shrouded in shadows and whispered secrets. The Mayor keeps coming to visit her, acting much more friendly than she though possible, but he won't tell her where Todd is, if he's safe, or if he's even still alive. She finds herself torn between two promises when the bombs start going off and soon must hunt down the dreaded Answer.

"I AM THE CIRCLE AND THE CIRCLE IS ME."

This book is absolutely amazing, much like it's predecessor. The characters feel a lot like friends now, and even now I feel panicked for their safety as I wait longly for the third installment. I give it a 100 out of 5 and highly recommend it to sci-fi fans and people who love action-packed books!

The Knife of Never Letting Go by Patrick Ness

My sister visited from college two weeks ago and during our traditional trip to Barnes and Noble I stumbled upon this book. I was a little suspicious at first but it turned out to be great!

Story:

Todd Hewitt is almost grown up. After twelve years of thirteen months on New World he is counting down the days until he turns 13 and finally becomes a man. But, to his great frustration, the day is not coming nearly soon enough and for now, he's stuck picking apples and tending to the sheep. He's the only boy left in Prentisstown, the only boy in a down with 147 men. All of the women, including Todd's mother, were killed by the Noise Germ only a little while after he was born. Besides the lack of women in their society, Prentisstown has many qualities that set it apart from the Old World. For example, everyone has Noise. Meaning everyone in the town can hear everyone else's thoughts. After being sent to the crocodile-infested swamp to pick apples Todd stumbles upon something, or rather, nothing. There's a space in the swamp where there is absolutely no noise. The silence is deafening to Todd, it feels like there's something cut out from inside of him when he gets closer to it and although he's made a staggering discovery, one that might even help Prentisstown he can't shake the feeling that he needs to keep it to himself, but how can he when everyone can hear and search his Noise? After being forced to leave Prentisstown, almost being murdered numerous times and finding something so strange that Todd can hardly even comprehend it, he must try to make it to the a settlement that is rumored to have a cure for the Noise. The journey is difficult enough for a 12 (technically 14 year old if you're counting by 12 month years) year old boy without all the dangers he meets along the way and the fact that there's an entire army after him.

"No one knows why. Still don't. Our scientists were mainly agriculturalists and the doctors couldn't find a reason and so for a while, there was chaos. Just...chaos like you wouldn't believe. Chaos and confusion and Noise, Noise, Noise."

This was an amazing book! It got to the point where whenever I had to stop reading I would almost cry and say "do I have to put it down?!" The main characters are amazing, it makes me feel like I've lost friends by finishing it, and not having the second book is torturing me. I'd highly recommend it to Sci-fi fans and people who like a lot of action in books. As for a rating I would give this story a 10 out of 5!
